Some motherboards present 4 or more SATA ports and in certain situations you want to find out which storage device is attached to which SATA port without opening the chassis. With this guide you can identify their physical address and disk ID under Windows with administrator permission.

Solutions

Step 1
Start > Run > [diskpart]

Step 2
Run [list disk] or [lis dis] (in abbreviation) to show all disk drive on the system.

Step 3
Use [select disk #] or [sel dis #] to open specific drive, then run [detail disk] or [det dis] to show details.

Please note that Path and Target ID will be presented in different ways when depending on IDE and AHCI mode.

a. When SATA mode set in [IDE] mode, you have to recognize their location by Path ID and Target ID.

b. When SATA mode set in [AHCI] mode, you can recognize their location by Path ID directly.

Step 4
After confirming their location, please query the schematic or check with your FAE the mapping table between SoC SATA channels to the physical SATA connector.
